Equity investors lose N5.72bn Dip as NGXASI declines by 0.01%
Nigeria’s Equities market closed negative on Thursday as the NGX-ASI decreased to 97,477.19 from 97,487.14 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.36%.
Market capitalization decreased by N5.72 billion to N56.013 trillion from N56.019 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover also decreased to N4.653 billion from N6.952billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 277,745,152 shares in 7,091 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,653,186,650.11, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, October 9), today’s data shows 22% decline in volume, 33% decline in turnover, and 17% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56 trillion.
In the aggregate, 122 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 23 gainers and 22 losers. Regency Alliance Insurance led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.66 per share, followed by Caverton Offshore Support Group (+9.73%), Royal Exchange (+8.7%) and Associated Bus Company (+8.2%).
On the losing side, Daar Communications came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.63 per share, followed by Livestock Feeds (-9.88%), Fidson Healthcare (-9.71%) and Sunu Assurances Nigeria (-9.71%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 43.3 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (30.7m), Zenith Bank (25.6m) and Lasaco Assurance (22.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 9.95 (-0.01%) points to close at 97,477.19, representing a 1-week gain of 0.43%, a 4-week gain of 0.7%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 30.36%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.04%; +1.2% 1WK; +30.68% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.03%; -0.44% 1WK; +38.91% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (-0%; -1.11% 1WK; +36.12% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0%; -0.03% 1WK; +31.97% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.05%; -1.54% 1WK; +38.53% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (-0.08%; +2.15% 1WK; +22.53% YTD).
