Equity investors lose N56.12bn as NGXASI declines by 0.10%
Nigeria’s equities market closed negative on Thursday as the NGX-ASI decreased to 97,100.36 from 97,248.82 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +29.86%.
Market capitalization also decreased by N84 billion to N55,131 trillion from N55.215 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover decreased to N3.522 billion from N5.480 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 271,259,970 shares in 7,233 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,522,892,918.09, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, August 14), today’s data shows 14% decline in volume, 36% decline in turnover, and 14% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 116 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 14 gainers and 31 losers. Neimeth International Pharma led the gainers with 9.55% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.18 per share, followed by Total Nigeria (+8.82%), Aiico Insurance (+6.54%) and C&I Leasing (+6.07%).
On the losing side, Oando came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.94% at NGN 32.60 per share, followed by Associated Bus Company (-9.52%), Livestock Feeds (-9.09%) and Guinea Insurance (-9.09%). Veritas Kapital Assurance recorded the highest volume of 33.4 million traded shares, followed by Sterling Bank (16.6m), Aiico Insurance (16.4m) and RT Briscoe (16.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 99.24 (-0.10%) points to close at 97,100.36, representing a 1-week loss of 1.04%, a 4-week loss of 3.39%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 29.86%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.01%; -0.55% 1WK; +29.05% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+2.63%; +5.86% 1WK; +58.62% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.41%; -0.62% 1WK; +21.44% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.09%; +0.23% 1WK; +28.06% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.06%; +0.8% 1WK; +16.21% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.03%; -0.61% 1WK; -6.84% YTD).
