Equity investors lose N63bn a NGX-ASI declines 0.11%
Nigerian Equities market closed negative on Monday as the NGX-ASI decreased to 98,107.52 from 98,210.75 recorded at the close of the previous trading day, indicating a YTD return of +31.21%.
Market capitalization decreased by N63 billion to N59.471 trillion from N59.534 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close. The market turnover also decreased to N12.864 billion from N17.462 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 436,039,692 shares in 9,489 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 12,864,433,678.17, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, December 6), today’s data shows 58% decline in volume, 26% decline in turnover, but 31% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 59.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 126 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 19 gainers and 36 losers. Nigerian Exchange Group led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 27.50 per share, followed by Golden Guinea Breweries (+10%), Tantalizers (+9.92%) and Africa Prudential (+9.72%).
On the losing side, Secure Electronic Technology came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.63 per share, followed by Guinea Insurance (-8.93%), Deap Capital Management & Trust (-8.4%) and Daar Communications (-7.02%). FCMB Group recorded the highest volume of 61.7 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (51.1m), United Bank for Africa (27.2m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (24.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 103.23 (-0.11%) points to close at 98,107.52, representing a 1-week gain of 0.38%, a 4-week gain of 0.75%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 31.21%.
