Equity investors lose N749.73bn as NGX-ASI declines by 1.36%
Nigerian Equities market closed negative on Monday as the NGX-ASI decreased to 95,779.79 from 97,100.31 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +28.09%.
Market capitalization also decreased by N749.73 billion to N54,381 trillion from N55,131 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover increased to N7.649 billion from N7.464 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 405,247,775 shares in 9,291 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,617,974,348.68, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, August 16), today’s data shows 16% improvement in volume, 2% improvement in turnover, and 21% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 54.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 30 gainers and 20 losers. Skyway Aviation Handling Co. led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 26.40 per share, followed by RT Briscoe (+10%), Oando (+9.9%) and FTN Cocoa Processors (+9.57%).
On the losing side, Cutix came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 46.67% at NGN 2.64 per share, followed by Dangote Cement (-10%), Secure Electronic Technology (-9.76%) and Africa Prudential (-9.68%). Guaranty Trust Holding recorded the highest volume of 59.3 million traded shares, followed by Wema Bank (25.4m), Access Holdings (24.7m) and United Bank for Africa (23.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined 1,320.52 (-1.36%) points to close at 95,779.79, representing a 1-week loss of 2.15%, a 4-week loss of 4.76%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 28.09%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-1.43%; -1.89% 1WK; +27.12% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.75%; -0.15% 1WK; +35.49% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.17%; -1.81% 1WK; -6.47% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.11%; +2% 1WK; +59% YTD), NGX Pension Index (-0.65%; -1.32% 1WK; +15.39% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.67%; -1.29% 1WK; +36.77% YTD).
