
Equity investors lose N84.58bn as NGXASI declines by 0.15%


Nigerian Equities Market closed negative on Thursday by 0.15% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 99,134.85 from 99,284.38 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +32.58%
Market capitalization decreased by N84.59 billion to 56.079 trillion from N56.163 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day while the market turnover also increased to N5.385 billion from N4.862 billion.

At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 309,806,091 shares in 6,765 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,385,043,947.24, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, June 5), today’s data shows 11% improvement in turnover but 12% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 117 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 17 gainers and 18 losers. Oando led the gainers with 9.77% share price appreciation closing at NGN 14.05 per share, followed by Eterna (+9.67%), Veritas Kapital Assurance (+9.52%) and N.E.M. Insurance Company (+8.75%).
On the losing side, May & Baker Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 6.03 per share, followed by Fidelity Bank (-9.72%), Sovereign Trust Insurance (-9.52%) and Stanbic IBTC Holdings (-8.77%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 49.2 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (42.4m), Oando (28.6m) and Guinness Nigeria (19.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 149.53 (-0.15%) points to close at 99,134.85, representing a 1-week loss of 0.14%, a 4-week gain of 0.89%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 32.58%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.23%; -0.3% 1WK; +31.38% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.66%; +3.65% 1WK; +15.72% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.28%; -0.24% 1WK; +23.78% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.1%; -0.47% 1WK; +35.86% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0%; -0.1% 1WK; +72.92% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.09%; +0.4% 1WK; +40.01% YTD).
