Equity investors record  N17.53bn loss  as NGXASI declines by 0.03%

Nigeria’s equities market closed negative on Friday  losing 3 basis points with a negative market breadth.

The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.03% to close at 98,125.73 compared to the previous day’s gain of 0.84% at 98,156.71. The NGX Market CAP also recorded a loss of N17.53bn Naira.

YTD, the NGXASI Stands at 31.23%

At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 140,771,892 shares in 6,934 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 9,418,632,878.40, were traded.

Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, May 16), today’s data shows 52% decline in volume, 25% improvement in turnover, but 5% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.5 trillion.

In the aggregate, 124 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 15 gainers and 24 losers. PZ Cussons Nigeria led the gainers with 9.92% share price appreciation closing at NGN 21.60 per share, followed by Julius Berger Nigeria (+9.53%), Sterling Bank (+6.67%) and FCMB Group (+5.26%).

 On the losing side, Transcorp Hotels came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.72% at NGN 92.00 per share, followed by N.E.M. Insurance Company (-9.63%), UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust (-9.57%) and Eterna (-9.35%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 25.6 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (13.8m), United Bank for Africa (5.63m) and FBN Holdings (5.32m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 30.98 (-0.03%) points to close at 98,125.73, representing a 1-week loss of 0.11%, a 4-week loss of 1.72%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 31.23%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.07%; -0.11% 1WK; +30.21% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.09%; -5.31% 1WK; -11.78% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.59%; -1.69% 1WK; +8.56% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.2%; -1.43% 1WK; +33.62% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.1%; -1.29% 1WK; +36.28% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (-0.01%; +0.01% 1WK; +72.98% YTD).
