Equity investors record N206.63bn loss as NGXASI declines by 0.37%
The Nigeria’s equities market closed the week’s trading in the negative territory, driven by selloffs in PZ (-10.00%), ETI (-9.98%), FBNH (-9.31%), NASCON (-2.86%), Zenithbank (-2.76%) and Dangsugar (-2.38%).
The NGX All-Share Index (NGX-ASI) fell 0.37% to 97,612.51 points, reinforcing Thursday’s loss of 0.15% at 97,978.02 points. Investors lost N206.63bn as the Market Cap fell to N55.22trn while the ASI’s year-to-date return dropped to 30.54%.
At the end of the last weekday of trading , a total of 769,094,477 shares in 7,585 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 15,742,733,756.41, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, May 23), today’s data shows 143% improvement in volume, 104% improvement in turnover, but 3% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 123 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 20 losers. International Energy Insurance led the gainers with 9.93% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.55 per share, followed by Cutix (+9.84%), Jaiz Bank (+8%) and Sovereign Trust Insurance (+7.69%).
On the losing side, PZ Cussons Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 19.80 per share, followed by Ecobank Transnational (-9.98%), FBN Holdings (-9.31%) and Consolidated Hallmark Holdings (-8.7%). Ecobank Transnational recorded the highest volume of 555 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (38.9m), Zenith Bank (24.5m) and FBN Holdings (20.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 365.51 (-0.37%) points to close at 97,612.51, representing a 1-week loss of 0.52%, a 4-week loss of 0.57%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.54%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.44%; -0.63% 1WK; +29.39% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.01%; +0.19% 1WK; +73.31% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +0.72% 1WK; +13.75% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.22%; -0.54% 1WK; +32.29% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (-0.31%; -3.5% 1WK; +9.9% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.42%; +0.31% 1WK; +36.71% YTD).
