Equity market bullish on Tuesday as NGXASI increases by 0.22%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Tuesday as the NGX-ASI increased to 97,123.61 from 96,907.73 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +29.89%.
Market capitalization increased by N131 billion to N58.852 trillion from N58.721 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. Also, The market turnover increased to N25.570 billion from N14.234 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 540,769,495 shares in 10,676 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 20,208,067,878.59, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, November 4), today’s data shows 56% decline in volume, 42% improvement in turnover, and 3% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 58.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 124 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 26 gainers and 21 losers. Conoil led the gainers with 9.93% share price appreciation closing at NGN 208.10 per share, followed by John Holt (+9.92%), United Bank for Africa (+9.87%) and Eunisell Interlinked (+9.87%). On the losing side, Oando came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.98% at NGN 72.65 per share, followed by Daar Communications (-9.68%), Regency Alliance Insurance (-6.52%) and Veritas Kapital Assurance (-6.25%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 202 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (46.4m), Veritas Kapital Assurance (34.7m) and Julius Berger Nigeria (26.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 215.88 (0.22%) points to close at 97,123.61, representing a 1-week loss of 0.95%, a 4-week loss of 0.47%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 29.89%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.43%; +0.65% 1WK; +32.23% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+3.16%; +7.66% 1WK; +16.41% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+1.55%; +2.83% 1WK; +124.13% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.42%; +2.9% 1WK; +32.64% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+1.11%; +0.59% 1WK; +26.47% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.05%; +0.22% 1WK; +38.98% YTD).
