Equity Market maintains bullish trend with N167bn gain as NGX-ASI appreciates 0.58%.
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive Wednesday as the NGX-ASI increased by 0.58% to close at 52,927.60 compared to 52,621.19 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +3.27%.
Market capitalization rose by N166.84 billion to N28.8194 trillion from N28.6526 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N7.83 billion from N5.17 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 455,179,794 shares in 6,635 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,833,754,972.93, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, May 23), today’s data shows 30% improvement in volume, 52% improvement in turnover, and 12% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 116 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 36 gainers and 17 losers. Nestle Nigeria led the gainers with 9.98% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1,148.00 per share, followed by Tripple Gee & Co. (+9.88%), University Press (+9.76%) and UAC of Nigeria (+9.76%).
On the losing side, Chellarams came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.82% at NGN 1.47 per share, followed by McNichols (-9.59%), Wapic Insurance (-8.7%) and Academy Press (-7.14%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 69.2 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (66.5m), Zenith Bank (37.5m) and Fidelity Bank (32.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 306.41 (0.58%) points to close at 52,927.60, representing a 1-week gain of 0.66%, a 4-week gain of 2.56%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 3.27%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.57%; +0.59% 1WK; +3.74% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.41%; +2.72% 1WK; +10% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+2.54%; +0.46% 1WK; +20.33% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+2.07%; +2.7% 1WK; +32.12% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.06%; +4.38% 1WK; +16.44% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+1.06%; +3.47% 1WK; +16.43% YTD).
