Former Deputy Governor of Cross River and 2023 governorship hopeful, Efiok Cobham says the state needs major reforms.
Cobham, who is also a former secretary of the PDP made this know in Calabar, the state capital.
He said when elected he will also entrench a new orientation and create a new set of values in the state.
In his , “In Cross River State the very first thing I will do is try and give the younger ones a new reorientation, create a new set of values.
“Part of the problems we have today is as a result of a breakdown in our value system that’s why I am saying there will be major reforms.
“Reforms in the health sector, educational sector and even in the way government is run, the way government properties is handled, we need those reforms of we are to get back on track.
“We need total reforms in Cross River State. As at today, our state is comatose, nothing is working and if you ask me what I am going to do first of all we need to recreate a new mindset in our younger ones.
“We need to regenerate all the institutions that are no longer functioning, we need to do a lot more because there is so much rot in the system”, the former deputy governor said.
On zoning, he said the state has come a long was and what has been achieved should be institutionalized.
He stressed that though he advocates zoning, it is not the focal point of his campaign for governorship and neither should it be truncated.
“I am not saying within the three zones at any given time there are no competent people but somehow it has worked for us why do we want to truncate it now, particularly now with the high level of insecurity everywhere for me, we should rather institutionalize what we have done.
“Even our party constitution recognises zoning anywhere but I have decided not to make zoning the focal point of my campaign because I know that within the south there is sufficient capacity”, he said.
