Ex-Lagos, Imo Milad, Ndubuisi Kanu, dies at 77

A one-time Military Administrator (MILAD) of Imo and Lagos states, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (rtd.), has died at the age of 77.

Kanu who has been ill for a long period, died at a Lagos hospital, Wednesday morning.

Abia State-born Kanu was military administrator of Imo State, in March 1976 and later between 1976 and 1978 served in similar capacity in Lagos during the various regimes of Generals Murtala Mohammed and Olusegun Obasanjo.

He has an honorary Doctorate Degrees from the Imo State University and the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

President of the human rights groups, Women Arise for Change Initiative and the Campaign for Democracy, who disclosed this in a short message, said a detailed statement will be issued soon.

Kanu, who was appointed into the Supreme Military Council (SMC) headed by the late Head of State, Gen. Murtala Muhammed in 1975, retired from the military to become a human rights activist.
