Eze Enweremadu: Children set up N5m Education Endowment Fund in father’s memorial ,
A N5 million Education Endowment Fund to assist indigent students to pursue their education has been instituted in memory of the late traditional head of Ngwaland (Eze Ukwu of Ngwa Ukwu), His Eminence, Eze (Sir) Dr. Benard Enweremadu.
Children of the foremost, influential and flamboyant traditional ruler in Abia State during his lifetime, announced the endowment fund during the One Year Memorial and Thanksgiving Service in honour of their late father held at St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Anglican Communion, Ahiaba Okpuala Parish, Ngwa-Ukwu Archdeaconry, in isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.
The Crown Prince, Rt. Hon. (Sir) Prince Christopher Enweremadu, who announced the setting up of the Education Endowment Fund during the Sunday, December 25 (Christmas day), 2022, thanksgiving service, said the move was to continue with their father’s legacy of philanthropy.
“His life was defined by philanthropy. He loved to give to people. That is why we resolved to institute and Education Endowment Fund in his name with N5 million, for a start,” Christopher who is currently the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abia State, said.
He also announced instant scholarship awards to the tune of N1, 000, 000, (N500, 000 respectively) for sponsorship of 20 secondary school students to pick their West the African Examination Council forms and bursary for 10 undergraduates from the St. Michaels and All Angels’ Church Parish.
The family equally gifted the Priest in charge of the Parish with a car, to ease his mobility.
He said the family was grateful to God for answering their prayer that they did not lose any of their members in the last one year, adding that the entire family has remained united, living together in peace without conflict of any sort since the transition of their father.
Addressing the congregation, the State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, said he has enormous respect for the Monarch, both in life and in death, adding that the family he left behind has proved wrong, naysayers who had predicted that large royal family would scatter immediately their father was no more.
He assured that he would continue to relate with the family, as he enjoined them to live in peace and continue to uphold the legacies of theirfather.
Also, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, Prof. Uche Ikonne, described the late monarch as a colossus in all strata of leadership, adding that it was imperative that the children would sustain the numerous legacies of their patriarch.
Ikonne who was represented by his running mate, Hon. Barr. Okey Igwe, told the gathering that the State Governor has done all that he could do for the people of Isiala Ngwa North by supporting the emergence of their son, Ikonne, as the Governorship Candidate of PDP.
“Support your son, the Governor has played his part, the rest remains for you,” Igwe said, as he solicited the solid support of the people to ensure all-round victory for PDP in the 2023 polls.
In his sermon, the Bishop of Isiala Ngwa Diocese, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Temple Onyinyechi Nwaogu, praised God for keeping the family intact after the demise of their father.
He described Eze Enweremadu as a worthy son of Ngwaland who was blessed with great wealth of leadership experience and wisdom with which he did great exploits in his lifetime, adding that he was a generous man.
Bishop Nwaogu who themed his sermon: “The righteous has hope even in death,” with the text taken from Proverbs 14:32, said that death was a transition to a better life and better place for the righteous and enjoined the family to continue to together in love.
He said that Christmas is celebrated to mark the birth of Jesus Christ who came to save the world. He noted that the grace of God has continued to protect His people from the turbulence of the world.
According to him, despite all grave global circumstances, “God has continued to show us His mercy.”
