FCT police confirm arrest of AK-47 wielding pastor in Abuja
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police has confirmed arrest of a cleric of the House on the Rock Church, in Abuja, identified as Pastor Uche Aigbe for reportedly displaying an AK-47 on the pulpit while preaching to his congregation during last Sunday’s service at the worship centre.
Earlier, Monday, the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had disclosed that the pastor was in the custody of the FCT command for investigation into matter.
“We have commenced investigation into this. The PPRO FCT will make an official statement as soon as possible. Thanks.”, he tweeted.
Pastor Aigbe had during last Sunday service at the House on the Rock Church in Abuja mounted the pulpit carrying an AK-47 rifle said to belong to the on-duty police officer attached to the ministry, identified as Musa Audu.
Confirming the arrest of the cleric, Tuesday, in a tweet via its verified Twitter handle (@FCT_PoliceNG), and signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh, the Command said the pastor’s action was ‘tagged inciting by various media and social media users.’
According to the Command, the pastor ‘was arrested in the early hours of Monday 13th February 2023, alongside the Church Chief Security Officer and one Inspector Musa Audu.’

“The Pastor whose message and demonstrations were tagged inciting by various media and social media users was arrested in the early hours of Monday 13th February 2023, alongside the Church Chief Security Officer and one Inspector Musa Audu, who was on duty on the said day and had unprofessionally released his rifle to the said pastor without permission or recourse to police authority.
“While discrete investigation has commenced, members of the public are urged to shun actions or utterances that is in breach of extant laws as the law is trite and all violators will be adequately sanctioned,” read the statement.
