A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Akwa Ibom State, Miss Chidinma Pascaline Oduma, has allegedly hacked a man to death in his house.
It was learnt that Oduma hacked the man, Akwaowo Japhet, to death with a machete, on Sunday, but was apprehended around 9.30am while trying to jump the fence of the deceased’s compound.
It was gathered that an irate mob caught the Corps member said to be about 26 years old, beat and stripped her naked after the body of her victim was found dead.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the lady hacked and killed her victim after several cuts on his stomach and face.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, said the incident was brought to their attention through a distress call.
He states that the Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, has ordered that a discreet investigation be carried out on the incident, and the accused would be charged to court after investigations are complete.
Macdon said, “On Sunday around 11am, we received a distress call from our control room, and so we had to send our policemen to No 219 Abak road, where one Chidinma Pascaline Oduma, a youth corper, was at the verge of being lynched by irate mob, but the police rescued her.
“When we carried out preliminary investigation, she informed us that one Akwaowo Japhet of No 219 Abak road, Uyo, took her to his house. She said while in the house, this Akwaowo Japhet picked up a machete and attempted to kill her.
“She said she dispossessed him and used the same machete on him which led to his death. So we had to recover the corpse and rescued the lady corper who should be about 25 or 26 years old.
“The lady has been arrested by the Police and she is in our custody. The Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, has ordered a discreet investigation into the alleged murder, and as soon as the police is done with the investigation, the matter will be charged to court”.
In his reaction, the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Julius Amusan, said he was informed of the incident on Sunday evening.
He stated that the report of a female corps member killing a man was unbelievable and unusual, but that the police had confirmed the incident.
He said, “She is a serving Batch A Corp member in Uyo local government area. The information on the matter did not get to me until 5pm on Sunday evening when somebody called to inform that a female corps member killed her lover.
“When the report came, I doubted it because it sounds strange that a female corp member would kill a man. It sounded unbelievable, it is something very unusual.
“I made a call to the Police headquarters and at that time they were unable to give me details of the incident. It was when I got to the Police that we were able to establish what really happened. It is a very unfortunate development that such a thing would happen.
“We would not be able to say what actually happened and the incident surrounding it. We depend on Police report because we are not eye witnesses.
“According to investigation, the lady and the boy were not into any previous relationship. Yesterday (Sunday) was the first day of their meeting. It was said that yesterday, the girl returned from Church, and later went out to buy bean cake”.
