However, it has been reported that Rangnick was appointed by the board of directors, despite Sir Alex Ferguson’s protests.

Rangnick is expected to be hired by United on a six-month contract to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Without consulting Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United chose Ralf Rangnick to be the club’s next interim manager.

Rangnick is expected to join United as a temporary head coach for a six-month contract until the end of May, following a breakthrough in negotiations on Thursday.

The 63-year-old is now the head of sports and development at Lokomotiv Moscow, but a move to Old Trafford to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unlikely.

Rangnick has previously managed Hannover, Schalke, Hoffenheim, and RB Leipzig since 1983. He previously managed Hannover, Schalke, Hoffenheim, and RB Leipzig.

He has influenced managers such as Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, and Ralph Hasenhuttl, and is known as the “godfather” of counter-pressing.

While he had been mentioned in previous stories, the news that United had reached an agreement with him, which was first reported by The Athletic on Thursday afternoon, was unexpected.

Rangnick will try to turn around United’s recent poor Premier League form before handing over to a full-time manager and signing a two-year consulting contract with the club.

Ferguson is one of the few people who will have had no idea what was going on behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

The 79-year-old has been a director on United’s football board since his retirement from managing in May 2013.

He has retained significant power at the club he led to tremendous success for 27 years, according to The Mirror, and chose David Moyes as his successor, but was not involved in Rangnick’s appointment.

Instead, football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher have been in charge of the search, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward still having a say.

Following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday, they chose Michael Carrick to serve as interim manager.

This committee, along with chairman Joel Glazer, will make the final decision on who will be the club’s long-term manager next summer.

Woodward is expected to step down in April, and managing director Richard Arnold is expected to take his place at the helm.

Ferguson is a big fan of Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is now in charge of Paris Saint-Germain, and Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is also rumored to be in the mix.
