FG constructing rural roads to boost agriculture – Senate President
[From BONIFACE OKORO, Umuahia]
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, says that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) pays great attention to construction of rural roads to boost agriculture.
Lawan who was in Abia State to commission roads attracted by the Senate Chief Whip, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, who is also the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, said that to achieve the goal of developing the agricultural sector, there must be access roads for evacuation of farm produce.
He noted that by electing Senator Kalu on the platform of APC, the people of Abia North chose a person who was working in tandem with the federal government’s objective, as he was building rural roads.
Lawan said: “I want to thank you for sending Senator Kalu to the Senate and I can assure you that he is doing well in the Senate.
“We will continue to work with him to bring the dividends of democracy to your communities because we believe the country cannot develop until the farmers in the rural communities are able to transport their farm products to urban areas for sale.
“That’s why President Muhammadu Buhari has, above all, insisted that the agriculture sector must develop to make food available for Nigerians. And to achieve that, there must be good, access roads to transport food produce to the markets.
“My final charge to you all is that you should continue with your support for the APC because any vote given to the APC in 2023 is an investment made for the construction of more rural roads.”
The Senate President stressed that providing road infrastructures in the rural communities was the reward the APC was giving to the communities for voting the party into power, promising that the party would not relent in its efforts geared towards rural development in its bid to change Nigeria’s narrative in this regard.
Inaugurating one of the roads constructed in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the State, Senator Lawan commended the people of the Senatorial district for voting for the APC in 2019, pointing out that they were reaping the benefits of the choice they made during the last general elections.
He reminded the people that another investment time was around the corner and urged them to make the right choice by voting the APC in 2023.
In his remarks, Senator Kalu thanked the people for their support and promised to do more in his capacity as the Senator representing Abia North.
The roads commissioned include a 2-kilometre (Km) road in Nvurunvu community, Uturu, and another 2-Km road in Amibo Chima, both in Isuikwuato Local Government Area.
Others were the 2km Agbo, Amoji Lodu Ring-road and the 4km Amaokwe Item- Uzo rubber Ohafia main road, 2 Km Amankalu Alayi road and a 5KM in Igbere, Bende LGA and a 5Km road in Agbaja Nkporo in Ohafia LGA. All the roads commissioned were asphalted and had drainages on both sides.
