The Federal Government has expressed delight at the level of revolution in the development of natural gas in Nigeria by the private sector, noting that it is an indication that Nigerians are beginning to embrace the need to reduce carbon emissions while promoting environmental sustainability.
It said the rapid development natural gas in the country will drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for the citizens just as the use of CNG in transportation will reduce the nation’s reliance on imported fuels and lower greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with “our commitments to the Paris Agreement and our national climate goals.”
Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Gas),Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, who stated this in address at the commissioning of Tetracore Group Limited CNG Facility and Ground-Breaking Of LNG Facility on Friday, 7th June 2024 in Ogun State will not only enhance the country’s domestic energy capacity but also contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability.
According to him, because of this, the government committed to creating an enabling environment that encourages investment in the gas sector, including implementing favourable policies, providing incentives for infrastructure development, and ensuring regulatory frameworks that promote efficiency, and sustainability.
The minister said that “the projects we are celebrating today will not only enhance our domestic energy capacity but also contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability.
“These projects will drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for our citizens. Additionally, the use of CNG in transportation will reduce our reliance on imported fuels and lower greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with our commitments to the Paris Agreement and our national climate goals.
“The ground-breaking of the LNG facility is another remarkable achievement. LNG offers a versatile and efficient means of transporting natural gas over long distances, making it accessible to regions that are not connected to gas pipelines. This facility will play a crucial role in expanding our in-country processing capabilities as well as delivering feedstock to gas based industries around the country.”
Additionally , Ekpo said “the Government’s role in supporting these initiatives cannot be overstated. We are committed to creating an enabling environment that encourages investment in the gas sector. This includes implementing favourable policies, providing incentives for infrastructure development, and ensuring regulatory frameworks that promote efficiency, and sustainability.
“ I am confident that Tetracore Energy Group’s projects will serve as a catalyst for further investments in the gas industry, fostering innovation and enhancing our energy infrastructure. It is through such initiatives that we can achieve our shared vision of a prosperous energy future for Nigeria.
“ As we move forward, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship. The success of these projects will not only be measured by the energy they produce but also by the positive impact they have on our economy, our communities, and our environment.”
A corporate member of the Women In Energy Network (WIEN) , Nigeria, Tetracore Energy Group Limited is an integrated energy solutions provider with a robust and increasing energy portfolio (natural gas and power delivery) across the energy landscape in Nigeria and a growing footprint within the African continent.
The Group is driven with a singular goal to deliver clean, cost effective and sustainable energy solutions for power, commercial and industrial sectors within the Nigerian Clime and the African Continent.
In his address at the ceremony , the Managing Director and CEO of the Group Olalekan Olakunle Williams, said the Group has made significant strides in Nigeria over the past three years, particularly in the downstream and midstream sectors.

He said the focus has been developing distribution infrastructure within the natural gas sector and supplying natural gas to various industries, including power generation companies.
“Fully funded and developed, our energy portfolio enables us to deliver up to 70 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to multiple customers, supporting the national grid through the supply of natural gas to NDPHC, which accounts for about 5% of energy generation in Nigeria,” he said.
According to Williams, this “is in alignment with our mission of delivering sustainable energy solutions in Africa through talent, strategic partnerships, and innovative technology, Tetracore conceived the idea of setting up a state-of-the-art Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) facility.
“This facility addresses critical challenges in Nigeria’s current energy infrastructure. With Nigeria needing approximately $10 billion (about $47 per person in Nigeria) to provide sustainable and accessible energy for its 200 million + population, we recognized the need to take proactive steps.
“Tetracore has built a reputation and experience in the delivery of piped natural gas. However, we realized the need to address the needs of customers in stranded locations without access to existing piped natural gas delivery infrastructure.
“The facility we are commissioning today is a state-of-the-art compressed natural gas satellite complex housing a 10 million standard cubic feet per day gas delivery facility, a 2.1-megawatt power generation plant, 6.1 million standard cubic feet per day compressed natural gas delivery, and loading facility as well as an ultra mordern staff accomodation and administravie facility.
Williams said that the Group’s commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of this project. Nigeria is endowed with abundant natural resources, particularly natural gas, yet we have yet to fully harness and optimize its potential. As of 2023, Nigeria boasts proven natural gas reserves of [insert actual figure] trillion cubic feet (Tcf), with the Daily Gas Domestic Demand Obligation (DGDO) for 2023 set at 3.2245 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCF/D).
“Despite this, our nation has only achieved an average performance of 58%, producing 1.87021 BSCF/D. Notably, 70% of this supply is directed towards the power sector. While there is observable growth, our current performance falls short of what is necessary to propel our nation forward. We must strive to reach a point where demand consistently exceeds supply, indicating robust utilization and economic growth.
“ One of the most expedient pathways to achieving this goal is through continuous investment in midstream and downstream gas infrastructure assets, ensuring efficient delivery to end-users”
