Kanu spoke while briefing newsmen at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of Monday’s State Executive Council meeting.
The Commissioner said the six mini-digital hubs which would provide free internet access, are to be built in six towns across the three senatorial zones in the state.
Kanu listed the towns where the hubs would be located to include Arocuhukwu and Umunneochi (Abia North); Ikwuano and Isiala Ngwa South (Abia Central), as well as Ukwa East and Ugwunagbo (Abia South).
Describing the expected digital hubs as a step in the right direction, the Abia Information boss said: “This is another forward-looking achievement by the state in the IT space.”
In his contribution, the Commissioner for Digital Economy and Small and Medium Enterprises, Dr. Matthew Ekwuribe,
Said the Commissioner: “The Minister of Communication, Digital Economy, and Innovation, Dr. Tijani, made the promise that the federal government would equip six hubs in Abia last week.
“Equipping these hubs is to enhace our digital economy and also make provisions for locations where we can have our digital skills training.
“In another three months, we will be announcing a lot of digital skills training such as cyber security, artificial intelligence, Data Science and Programming Languages like JavaScript, HTML and the rest of them.”
According to him, Abia State, at the moment, lacked digital hubs where Abians and residents could be trained, adding that “with the promise of the Minister, I believe it can go a long way in achieving our digital training programmes.”
