FG to replicate Ebute-Metta Mega Rail Station in Kano
The Federal Government has said that the approved design for the Dawachiki, Kano Train Station will be a mega station similar to the Ebute-Metta Train Station in Lagos.
The Minister for Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi stated this when he paid a courtesy visit on the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, at his Palace.
According to the Minister, the resolve to replicate this in Kano is as a result of the commercial nature of the city and its link between the corridors of transit.
The Minister further stated that it was pertinent to come and thank him for his hospitality the five days of the National Council of Transportation stay in the city.
Responding, the Emir said “l regard you as a brother and appreciate all your efforts in the Ministry of Transportation to reposition Nigeria. You make promises and deliver on them”.
“You have fulfilled your promises to us, whatever you’re doing now is an added value to the promises already fulfilled. The emirate will continue to pray for you to continue your good work to make Nigeria great again.”
The Permanent Secretary had earlier visited the station to ascertain if the trains were running. She was informed that there were shuttles from Kano to Nguru twice a week while that of Kano to Lagos which takes about 24hours on the narrow gauge is also twice a week.
The Permanent Secretary said that Kano is the most fortunate of all the states since it’ll benefit from the Standard Gauge as well as the international one that will run from Kano to Maradi in Niger Republic. According to her, Federal Executive Council has approved and work has already started at the back ends of the projects.
Those on the courtesy call include: the Deputy Governor, Kano State, Dr. Nasiru Gawuna, members of the National Council on Transportation, Directors of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Executive Secretary, Nigeria Shippers’ Council, Emmanuel Jime, Registrar, Council for Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, Sam Nwakohu and others.
