FIFA U20 World Cup: Uruguay beat Italy to clinch trophy, as Israel win bronze
FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina concluded with another South American country clinching the trophy after favourites, Italy by 3-1 in the final match.
This is also as surprise package, Israel completed their stunning performance at the tournament with a slim 1-0 victory over South Korea, another revelation of the competition.
South Korea had earlier in the quarter finals stopped Nigeria’s Flying Eagles from advancing to the semi-finals via a 2-1 scoreline, against expectation s as the Nigerian team had been tipped to progress after sending host nation, Argentina out of the tournament in 2-0 victory.
Israel’s Binyamin scored the first goal of the night in the 20th minute, to put the Europeans in great shape as they lifted their hope of winning the bronze medal in Argentina. However, South Korea’s Lee put the Asians side back into the game just 5 minutes after from the Penalty Spot to make it 1-1 as they close the half on a draw note.
In the second half, Senior changed the narrative for Korea in the 77th minute, scoring the second goal for Israel to make it 2-1 as Korea Republic midfield collapsed. Khalaili finished the 3rd place match with the back breaking goal for Israel, to make the scoreline a commanding 3-1, that ended Korea’s quest of a comeback.
In the final match, Uruguay emerged worthy Champions of the World after just 90 minute. Although the Italians were up to the task but the American side Uruguay had their plans which paid off at the end of the game.
The single strike by Uruguay’s Rodriguez in injury time ensured that the trophy remained in South America.
