Financial Intelligence Unit, state governors, CBN, EFCC, others to meet over cashless policy, Tuesday
State Governors and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) are expected to meet with agencies, organisations drawn from both the public and private sectors of the economy, Tuesday, in Abuja over the facilities provided by the Federal Government for national financial inclusion.
According to a statement issued by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Monday, the meeting is being convened at the instance of the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), in its letter of 30th March, to the Chairman of the NGF and signed by the NFIU Director, Modibbo Hamman Tukur.
The meeting is also expected to discuss the proposed uniform development and cooperation on the National addressing and postcode project, as well as, reach a consensus on harmonizing and updating national tax collection and business entry standards, including their requirements to help respond to the FATF and the EU greylisting in which Nigeria appeared.
With only weeks to the expiration of tenure of office of the present government, and that of some state governors, including the NGF’s Chairman, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, attendees, who also include, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), are expected to resolve the issue of Nigeria’s postcode so as to put Nigeria on the same pedestal as all advanced countries across the globe.
Also expected to be in attendance at the meeting include; the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS),
State governors are also expected to deliberate on ways of deepening the management and expansion of the cashless policy which took effect in 2022.
