Flying Eagles pick FIFA 2023 World Cup ticket, beat Uganda 1-0

Nigeria’s U20 national football team, the Flying Eagles, Thursday night, picked on of the four tickets for Africa after beating Uganda’s junior team by 1-0.

The win came via an own goal scored by Uganda’s Ibrahim Juma in the second half of the match saw the Flying Eagles complete a recovery after a bad start in the competition in the ongoing U20 AFCON in Egypt.

The Eagles have now qualified for the semi-final of the competition.

The Flying Eagles match against the Ugandan Hippos was played in Alexandria, Egypt, and is the first loss suffered by the East Africans who have been unbeaten in the competition so far.

The Flying Eagles had a bad start after losing 1-0 to Senegal before edging past Mozambique and host Egypt by 2-0 and 1-0 respectively to qualify to emerge second best in the group behind Senegal for the quarter final stages.

By reaching the semifinals and on course to win their 8th title, they have also clinched one of Africa’s four tickets for the FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held in Indonesia between May 20 and June 11.

The Flying Eagles had the first half under control and piled on the pressure.

The Flying Eagles will now face the winner of the other quarter final match between South Sudan and the Gambia, Friday evening.

The FIFA Youth World Cup will be hosted in Indonesia, this year.
