
Extensive damage caused by the gas explosion in Mushin, Tuesday
Gas explosion again rocks Lagos, many feared dead

Mushin area of Lagos was, Tuesday morning, rocked by an explosion suspected to be from gas, as scores of people remain unaccounted for.

The gas explosion which reportedly occurred early Tuesday morning, at about 8am caused extensive damage to the residential property at 31, Odekunle Street, Papa Ajao, Mushin area of the state.


Responders of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos Response Unit, the fire service as well as the police have already deployed to the site for search and rescue operations.
LASEMA has yet to confirm the actual casualty figure from the accident, but eyewitnesses say the number could rise to five with more injured.
Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye said the incident was reported at 08:42 am via the State emergency reporting platform and was responded to by a combination of the State first and secondary responders.
According to Adeseye, on arrival at the scene, it was discovered that it is an open space used for several activities including a beer parlour, mechanic workshop, spare parts sale and gas shop amongst others while housing a makeshift structure.
He said preliminary investigations to establish the fact of the incident continue and further discovery will be made public.
