Ahead of arrangements to commission the 188 megawatts Geometric power plant in Aba, the Senior Special Assistant to Abia State Governor on Due Process, Dr Oluebube Chukwu, has said that the coming on stream of Geometric power project would be the game changer in Abia’s socio-economic growth and development.
Dr Chukwu made the observation while interacting with newsmen in Umuahia, noting that constant quality and affordable power supply by Geometric after the inauguration of its power plant would result in drastic reduction of the cost of doing business and boost economic and commercial activities in the state.
Geometric Power Limited, a private sector-driven power solutions provider, would on Monday, February 26, 2024 commission its power plant expected to generated and supply about 188 megawatts of electricity to Aba and environs.
Dwelling on the advantages that would accrue from the Geometric venture, Chukwu stressed the primal importance of electricity supply in the development of any society, and the negative effect of lack of it.
“Lack of electricity hampers economic growth and development, hence it makes Small and Medium Scale businesses to struggle to operate efficiently and industrial activities are constrained, thereby limiting job opportunities and internally generated revenue of the state,” he said.
The Senior Special Assistant noted the eratic power supply was anti-investment and has been responsible for crippling businesses. “This has been a major reason many investors are sceptical about investing in such environment,” he asserted.
“Poor power generation and distribution represents a major drawback for the individual growth and development, leading to closure of industries, as well as rapid decline in the availability of social amenities,” he added.
The commissioning of the Osisioma Industrial Layout-based Geometric Power plant, Dr Chukwu said, accords with Governor Otti’s vision for a New Abia, adding that the event was an indication that the Governor was being strategic and determined to ensure that the economy of Abia was placed on global scale.
“For Abia State Governor and his team to have worked assiduously behind the scenes to ensure its speedy commissioning by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu shows that the Governor is intentional and futuristic, as well as committed to business growth and development in the State,” he said.
Chukwu, therefore applauded Governor Otti for the realisation of the Geometric dream to boost electricity supply in Aba, while urging the business community in the Enyimba commercial city to embrace the enabling environment which help them to grow their businesses and investments.
