Good governance: Abia Central passes vote confidence on Otti

People of Abia Central Senatorial Zone have passed a vote of confidence on the state Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, urging hom to continue with his good leadership models that have enabled him to deliver valued democracy dividends to Abians.
The people of the zone comprising the six local governments of Ikwuano, Isiala Ngwa North, Isialangwa South, Osisioma, Umuahia North and Umuahia South, passed the confidence vote during a Town Hall Meeting between them and the Governor at the Ochendo International Conference Centre, Umuahia, on Friday, May 24, 2024.
The member representing Umuahia North/ Umuahia South/Ikwuano Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, moved the motion after the Mayors of the six local government areas of the zone had rendered accounts of their stewardship covering the six months they have spent in office.
Hon. Boniface Isienyi, representing Ikwuano State Constituency, supported the motion, while the Deputy Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini put the motion a voice vote and it unanimously carried.
The people encouraged the Governor to continue in his good works, pledging their support always.
The Deputy Speaker said, the Governor, by organizing the Town Hall meetings, was giving power back to the people.
He said because the lawmakers trust decisions of the Governor with regard to managing the finances of the state, they would not hesitate to approve his requests, and urged the people to continue to support the Governor.
Another lawmaker, Hon. Chinasa Anthony Abiola, representing Umuahia Central, described Governor Otti as a precious gift to Abia at this point in time, noting that he has kept to his promises.
The Mayor’s: Chief Osinachi Nwaka (Ikwuano LGA), Chief CY Nwankwo (Isiala Ngwa North), Dr. Elelenta Nwambuisi Elele (Isiala Ngwa South), Engr. Israel Nweke (Osisioma), High Chief Victor Ikeji (Umuahia North) and Barr. Ejikeme Obike, each gave account of his stewardship since their inauguation on November 30, last year.
Most of the projects executed by the Mayors include renovation of buildings at the headquarters of their councils, grading of road, boosting power supply through provision of transformers and generators, as well as enhancing security in their jurisdictions.
Governor Otti who was visibly impressed with the achievements of the Mayors promised them of his continued support to enable to continue developing the grassroots.
The Governor assured them that there was no limit to approvals he could give them, provided they come up good proposals and also account for monies they received.
He expressed happiness that the Mayor’s and other stakeholders actively supported the organization of the Town Hall meeting and mobilizing their people to the event.
“Let me specially thank the Mayors of Umuahia North and South, Isiala Ngwa North and South, Ikwuano and Osisioma for actively supporting the organisation of this event. We are also grateful to the State House of Assembly members, Federal lawmakers, senior appointees of the Abia State Government, and leaders of our great Party, the Labour Party, from this Zone for effectively mobilising our people to be part of this event,” the Governor said..
