Gov Diri, deputy inaugurated for 2nd-term ,pledges more development
The Chief Judge of Bayelsa Justice Matilda Ayemieye on Wednesday administered the oaths of office and allegiance to Gov Douye Diri of Bayelsa, his Deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo to signal their inauguration for a second term in office at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
The inauguration is sequel to their re-election on the November 11, 2023 off cycle governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking shortly after inauguration, Diri expressed gratitude to Bayelsa people for renewing his mandate for a second term, assuring that he would vigorously pursue more development.
“We did not just count the four years, we made the years truly count by prudent use of public funds.
“We did not abandon any project, we completed inherited projects and initiated new ones, and created opportunities for the people of Bayelsa” he said.
He promised to complete the Yenagoa-Oporoma road and the Nembe-Brass roads.
He assured that power supply. Portable water and agriculture will be the priorities in the second term.
He sought the continued support of the people, the legislature and judiciary in an atmosphere of love and unity to take Bayelsa to greater heights.
Dignatories who witnessed the second term inauguration include Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
The Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Koung, represented the President of Liberia Joseph Boakai at the event.
Also former Governor of Bayelsa who handed the baton on Feb. 14, 2020, Sen. Seriake Dickson as well as serving governors and other dignitaries witnessed the occasion.
