Gov Douye Diri of Bayelsa has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). ending several months of speculation of his exit and.
Diri made this known at the State Executive Council Meeting at the Government House in Yenagoa on Wednesday.
Diri who said he was leaving PDP for ‘obvious’ reasons did not say the political party he was heading to.
He thanked his supporters and allies.
Also, 19 Members of the State House of Assembly from the PDP alongside the Speaker, Mr. Abraham Ingobere have resigned membership of the PDP.
The Chief Press Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah also confirmed the development in a post on his verified Social Media handle.
Members of the State Executive Council have also resigned membership of the PDP.
Following the development, residents are expecting the move of the governor and his followers to the All Progressives Congress (APC)
