Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has approved N3billion for the development of the state-owned university.
Governor Emmanuel revealed on Wednesday in Uyo after the State Executive meeting that the money is meant to provide critical infrastructural development for the institution in line with the master plan.
Emmanuel also directed that the scholarship proposed for undergraduate and post graduate students across the state, designed with special packages to accommodate some professional courses should be improved upon.
According to a press release signed by the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr Ini Ememobong, and made available to newsmen, “Council was notified of award of projects to the tune of 3 billion naira to the Akwa Ibom State University, through the intervention of the Governor.
“The projects are to provide critical infrastructure in the university in line with the strategic development plan of the State Government for the University.
“The Honourable Commissioner for Education presented a comprehensive Scholarship Proposal for Undergraduate and post graduate students.
“The proposal also created special packages for some professional courses and signposted the need for strategic scholarship awards in the areas of aviation, maritime, science and technology, in view of the opportunities these areas offer and our current comparative advantage”.
Governor Emmanuel advised exco members to be diligent in the discharge of their duties, saying it would boost efficiency, yield better results and check unnecessary errors.
He revealed that many mega investment activities would soon birth in the state and directed members to liaise with youths and community leaders in their jurisdictions so they would cooperate with the investors when they arrive.
He said, “apply diligence in all your official endeavours in order to increase efficiency, produce better results and curb unnecessary errors.
“A lot of mega investment activities will birth in the state soonest. I direct members to interface with youths and community leaders in their jurisdictions to cooperate with the investors when they arrive. The investments will help reduce the unemployment problem in our state”.
The Governor directed the Ministry of Health to track the global performance status of COVID-19 vaccines currently being administered and its adverse reaction rate.
He further commended health workers in the state for their diligence in the fight against the virus.
