Gov. Ikpeazu sacks aide, directs appointees nursing political ambitions to resign in 72hrs

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, on Friday, sacked his Special Adviser on Social Investment, Mr Chinenye Nwogu.
Nwogu was relieved of his appointment few hours after the Governor had directed all political and public office holders in his administration harbouring political ambition to resign within 72 hours.
The sacking of Nwogu was contained in a terse statement endorsed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem.
It reads: “The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has relieved Mr . Chinenye Nwogu of his appointment as Special Adviser (Social Investment), Abia State.
This government directive takes immediate effect.”
The SSG also signed the statement directing political and public office holders wishing to contest for elective offices in 2023, to quit their offices, in line with the provision of the new Electoral Act.
“Pursuant to section 84(12) of the amended Electoral Act 2022, which has been signed by His Excellency, the President and Commander -in- Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari, and subsequent release of the necessary guidelines to facilitate hitch-free election in Nigeria by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), all Political cum Public office holders in Abia State who are desirous of participating in the political process either as a contestant for elective position or as delegate, are by this notice directed to resign their appointments on or before Monday, April 11, 2022.
“You will please comply strictly to this Government directive,” the statement read.
