Gov. Ikpeazu sacks all aides, approves N3.2bn for workers’ salary arrears, to present 2022 budget, Tuesday

Abia Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has approved the release of over N3.2 billion to offset salary arrears of workers of various parastatals in the state.

Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Dr. Eze Chikamnayo made this known while briefing the Press at the Government House, Umuahia.

According to the Commissioner, the affected parastatals and the amount released for them are as follows:

Abia Health Management Board (HMB) – N828 million, Secondary School Teachers –  N983 million, Abia State College of Education Technical (ASCETA) – 12 months arrears, Abia Polytechnic Aba – 4 months subvention, Abia Pensioners – N520 million, ABSUTH – 2 months subvention and Abia State College of Health and Management Technology – 5 months subvention and N200 million grant to facilitate relocation to permanent site.

The Commissioner who disclosed that the payments started since Thursday last week, advised all the parastatals concerned to ensure strict compliance to the directives and make the payments accordingly.

He added that parastatals in the State were going through reforms with a view to ensuring that they fulfil their obligations and described Governor Ikpeazu as a compassionate and listening Governor, “who is committed to serving the State and working his transformational job till his last day in office.”

Meanwhile, Governor Ikpeazu, will Tuesday, December 14, 2021, present the State’s 2022 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly.

In another development, the Governor has sacked his aides.

A statement endorsed by Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, detailing the development, read:

“The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has approved the immediate dissolution of the Body of Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Special Assistants in Abia State.

“The Governor, however, appreciates all the appointees for their individual and collective contributions towards the development of the State, and wish them well in their future endeavours.

“This directives take immediate effect.”
