Gov Umahi slams indefinite suspension of monarch over renewed communal war

Following the renewed communal war between the people of Ishinkwo and Abaomege communities in Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State,Governor David Umahi has slammed an indefinite suspension on the traditional Ruler of Ishinkwo Community, Eze Jesophat Ikegwu.
The two communities had been enmeshed in an intractable communal war for decades over a land dispute, that has led to scores of deaths and destruction of property.
A statement by the Secretary to Ebonyi State government and Coordinating Commissioner, Dr Kenneth Ugbala, on Sunday, said the Monarch’s suspension followed his inability to stop the ongoing killings in his area.
He was also directed to return all Government property in his possession including his Official Vehicle to the Secretary to government, on or before close of work on Monday, October 17, 2022.
The statement reads: “His Excellency, the Governor of the State, Engineer David Nweze Umahi, CON has ordered the indefinite suspension of the traditional ruler of Ishinkwo community Eze Josephat Ikegwu from office for his inability to stop the ongoing killings in his area.
“Consequently, the Traditional Ruler of Ishinkwo Autonomous Community is to return all Government property in his possession including his Official Vehicle to the Secretary to the State Government/ Coordinating Commissioner on or before close of work on Monday, October 17, 2022.
“Please note that both the suspension and return of Government property takes effect immediately.”
