Governorship election results for Cross River, Jigawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Katsina, Akwa Ibom, Nasarawa, others, as announced by INEC
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded collation of results fro most of the 28 states where the governorship and state Assembly polls were conducted, last Saturday, March 18, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) maintaining its overall lead.
While the APC won the governorship polls in Jigawa, Katsina, Benue, Sokoto, Lagos, Gombe, Ogun, Yobe and Kwara states, while the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) claimed Kano.
In Oyo state, Seyi Makinde of the PDP was declared the winner of the governorship poll after scoring 563,756 votes to beat his closest rival, Teslim Folarin of the All Progressive Congress scored 256,685 votes. Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord Party scored 38,357 votes.
Governor Abiodun of Ogun state secured a second term in office after polling 276,298 votes to defeat his PDP opponent, Oladipupo Adebutu, who scored 262,383 votes and 12 other candidates.
From Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu was re-elected as he polled the highest number of votes in the governorship election held on Saturday. The results were announced at INEC’s collation centre in Yaba, Lagos.
The incumbent Kwara State Governor, APC candidate garnered 273,424 votes to beat his closest rival, Alhaji Yaman Abdullahi of the PDP scored 155,490 votes in the election.
Muhammad Yahaya, APC candidate in Gombe state won a second term in office polling 342,821 to overwhelm his closest challenger and PDP candidate, Muhammad Barde, who scored 233,131 and the NNPP’s Khamisu Mailantarki recorded 19,861.
Announcing the result of the election at the INEC headquarters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Sunday, the state Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State, Prof Emmanuel Adigio said Umo Eno amassed 356,346 votes to defeat the APC and Young Progressives Party candidates had 129,602 and 136,262 votes, respectively.
In Katsina State, the APC governorship candidate, Dikko Radda, emerged as the governor-elect after being victorious in 33 of the 34 LGAs in the state
In Yobe State, Governor Mai Buni was also re-elected
The returning officer for the governorship election in Sokoto State, Professor Armayau Hamisu, who is also the Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Dutsinma, Katsina State announced APC’s Ahmad Aliyu as winner after collating all the 23 local governments area results at about 10 pm on Sunday.
In Jigawa State, INEC declared the APC candidate, Alhaji Namadi Dammodi, as the winner of the 2023 governorship election in the state.
Announcing the result, the INEC Collation officer in the state, the Vice Chancellor Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Prof. Zayyanu Umar Birnin, Dammodi scored 618,449 to emerge winner and newly elected governor of Jigawa state.
In Bauchi, Bala Muhammed, the incumbent Governor won the governorship election.
The Returning officer for the governorship election in Bauchi, Prof. Abdulkarim Mohammed and Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Dutse, Jigawa, said Bala Mohammed of the PDP polled 525,281 to defeat his closest rival, Air Marshal Abubakar Sadiq of the APC who scored 432,272 votes.
In Nasarawa, candidate of the APC and incumbent Governor, Abdullahi Sule was declared winner by INEC.
State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Plateau State, Professor Tanko Ishaya said that the APC candidate polled a total of 347, 209 votes to defeats his closest opponent David Ombugadu, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who got 283, 016 votes.
In Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu of the APC won the governorship election of Saturday, March 19
He was declared the winner after he won in 15 Local Government Areas, out of the 18 Local Government Areas in the state.
Announcing the result on Monday at the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) Collation Centre in Calabar, INEC Returning Officer, Professor Teddy Adies, disclosed that after collating the results from the 18 LGAs APC pulled 258,619 votes.
He said that the PDP got 179,636 votes while the Labour Party, LP gathered 5,957 votes.
According to him, “The total number of registered voters was 1,766,466, with 466,294 accredited and total valid votes stood at 451,933 as 8,923 was recorded as voided votes. The total vote cast was 460,856.
“11 political parties participated in this election and for the results to get to us here at the state level, it had t pass through the Polling Units, the Ward Collation Centres and the collation centre at the Local Government Levels.
“Otu of the APC after satisfying the requirement of the law has been returned elected,” he added.
