Group concludes one-day career, entrepreneurship seminar for school children
Youth-oriented group, the Youngpreneur Initiative Programme (YIP) has concluded the second edition of its Annual Career Seminar (ACS), tagged; ‘Indomiepreneur’ for school children in the country.
The annual programme which creates a platform for capacity building in the area of entrepreneurial skills, targets children of primary school age in the society for mentoring and training.
This year’s edition gathered children from various primary and secondary schools across the country to a one-day training programme which held at the Molab Children School Alagbole-Akute in Ogun State.
Declaring open the seminar, Chief Executive Officer of the Youngpreneur Initiative Programme (YIP), Mrs. Oluwakemi Adedoyin Adejuyigbe, noted that there was a vacuum in the country which needed to be filled through giving children a platform such as the seminar provides to thrive academically and in other vocations.
According to her, ‘this is what led us to ‘Indomiepreneur, because our young people are also known as the Indomie-Generation-Z.’
The programme, a partnership of several corporate organisations and non-governmental organizations, as well as, educational institutions in the country, seeks to inculcate entrepreneurial and career awareness skills into children of school age, as a mission statement.
“Being the second Annual Career Seminar (ACS) to be hosted by YIP, I saw and felt the needs of going into partnership with other stakeholders from different companies, in order to give the young people the right platform to thrive academically and otherwise. This is what led us to ‘Indomiepreneur’ because our young people are also known as the Indomie-Generation-Z.
“We are also in our own small way, trying to combat the rate of unemployment in Nigeria through platforms like this that we have created because we believe that there’s a need to inculcate the entrepreneurship spirit into our youths right from the tender school age.
“This is one of the main visions of Youngpreneur Initiative Programme. As we all know that the era of only School Certificate alone, is gone”, Adejuyigbe said.
Guest lecturers took turns to educate and enlighten the school children in attendance on basic skills in entrepreneurship, career guidance, and basic academic knowledge.
Participating schools at the career seminar were; the Molab Children School Alagbole-akute, venue of the programme, the Focus International School; De-Ultimate Continental College Asore; Azub-Glory School, among others.
Adejuyigbe also used the occasion of the seminar to celebrate her 40th birthday with the children in attendance at the seminar, as she expressed gratitude to all the schools in attendance, which had been in partnership with YIP, since its inception in the year 2016, ‘through thick and thin.’
The CEO further called for more support from the private and corporate sector towards the annual programme which he said ‘will love to partner with YIP and create more platforms for Nigerian children to excel.’
