
Gunmen abduct NPC Commissioner for Bayelsa , aides on East-West Rd, demand N500m

The Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission (NPC) in Bayelsa State, Mrs. Gloria Izonfuo has been abducted by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
Izonfuo, a former Head of Service in Bayelsa was abducted at the Ogbakiri junction along the East-West Road on Sunday evening enrout Port Harcourt from a trip to Brass in Bayelsa.
Sources at NPC office in Bayelsa said she was whisked away by the gunmen alongside her driver and maid with her abductors demanding N500 million naira ransom for their release.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko who confirmed the incident in a telephone chat, said the Commissioner of Police has deployed tactical teams to ensure she regains her freedom.
The abduction incident coming less than two weeks to the 2023 National Census is a setback as Izonfuo has been at the centre of pre-census activities in Bayelsa.
