Gunmen storm church in Kaduna, abduct 40 worshippers during service
Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, abducted nearly 40 worshippers during service at Bege Baptist Church, Madala along the Buruku Baringi Road in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna, Sunday.
However, 15 of the initial 40 escaped from their captors, as 25 are still in captivity, with no trace of their whereabouts, just as the abductors are yet to make contacts with the families of their captives.
Chairman, of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State chapter, Rev. John Hayab, who confirmed the incident, Monday, said the incident happened at about 9:30 am when the worshippers were in the service.
According to Hayab, efforts were being made to contact the abductors of the remaining 25 victims.
“The worshippers were in the Sunday service in the Church when around 9:30 am they heard gunshots very close to the Church. The gunmen attacked the Church and went away with 40 worshippers.
“Along the way, somehow 15 of the kidnapped persons returned remaining the rest 25 who are presently in captivity without any word from their abductors.
“Efforts are being made to get in contact with the abductors concerning the remaining people and prayed that the abductors would be merciful to release the remaining 25 back to their families,” Hayab said.
However, both the state government and the police command are yet to confirm the incident, as at Tuesday.
State Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige has not responded over the attack on the church, which has become a common feature in the state.
