Help government to end perennial flooding of Aba, stop dumping refuse into drains, maintain clean environment, Otti tells Aba residents

From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has passionately appealed to residents of the commercial city of Aba to stop dumping of refuse into the drains as a way of helping government to end the perennial flooding of the city.

Governor Otti made the appeal while inspecting various ongoing roads construction and reconstruction projects in the Enyimba City on Friday, March 8, 2025.
Under the urban renewal policy of the Otti administration, the government has constructed and reconstructed dilapidated roads and built solid drainages which have drastically reduced the menace of flooding in Aba.
During the inspection, Governor Otti told the people that since Aba was gradually reclaiming its past glory and the people were no longer witnessing the perennial flood of the city, the residents should assist government in keeping the city clean and desist from dumping refuse into the drains which obstruct free flow of water.
The Governor thanked the enthusiastic Aba residents for their support to the contractors and his administration, assuring them of more glorious days ahead.
During the inspection, Governor Otti expressed satisfaction with the level of work on the roads. He said that with the multiple ongoing road projects, Abia would soon take its pride of place in the comity of economically advanced states with the right environment for investment.
The Governor expressed his happiness with the quality of work done by Julius Berger on Port Harcourt Road, Aba, adding that the road would soon be commissioned. However, he frowned at the slow pace of work on the Ekeakpara –NNPC-Osisioma road and directed the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Oti, to put pressure on the contractor handling the project to accelerate the pace work.
Jubilant residents who trooped out to welcome the Governor and his team, commended him for the numerous infrastructure revolutions taking place in various parts of the famous Enyimba City which is the commercial nerve centre of the State.
The solidarity songs chanting crowd extolled Governor Otti’s for his commitment to changing the narratives in road and drainage Infrastructure in Aba.
Some residents of the roads undergoing rehabilitation, including Mr. Titus Ndubuisi, Mr. Nneamaka Enyindiya, Mrs. Ngozi OKeke, among others, described Governor Otti as the People’s Governor, elected by the people to work for the people.
They told newsmen that the Governor does not need to come to Aba for re-election campaigns, emphasizing that his works were “campaigning” for him.
They recalled that their roads were not only dilapidated but abandoned before the Governor’s intervention. According to them, no government in the last 24 years has attempted doing what Governor Otti has done for them.
The roads inspected by the Governor include Port-Harcourt Road, Aba, Ekeakpara -NNPC Road in Osisioma, Omuma Road to the abandoned Old Express road which harboured over one Kilometre-long heap of refuse, the long abandoned Eziukwu Road, Market Road, Tenant Road, Cameroun Road, Ehi Road, Clifford Road, School Road and other strategic Roads across Asa Road within Aba Metropolis and city centre.
