Help Otti to entrench good governance in Abia, group appeals to Abians, holds solidarity rally
From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
A pro-Governor Alex Otti group has appealed to Abians to support the Governor to entrench good governance in the state.
The Dr. Alex Otti Support Group made the call during a Press Briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Umuahia, ahead of its second rally scheduled for Umuahia on Thursday, February 1, 2024. The first of the rallies held in Aba on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
The rally, tagged “The Help We Need Is Here… Let Us Support Him to Deliver,” according to the organizers, is to, among others, to celebrate the recent Supreme Court victory of Governor Otti and to pray for the success of his administration.
Executive Secretary of the Dr. Alex Otti Support Group, Barr. Chile KMI, said the group was formed with the vision of promoting good governance in Abia, with Governor Otti, now, as its grand patron.
Barr. Chile said before the 2023 general election, the group identified Otti as the candidate who has the qualities to deliver good governance and supported him.
He said that now that Otti has been elected and his victory ratified by the apex court in the land, time has come for Abians and Nigerians of goodwill to extend the necessary cooperation and support to Governor Otti to not only deliver dividends of democracy to the electorate, but to entrench good governance in the state.
“Our decision centred on looking for a man who will help to enthrone and heed our quest for good governance. And before the election, we identified with, saw the charisma, saw the principles and activities of Dr. Alex Otti as being able, if by the grace of God he is elected, to make the people of Abia State to have cause to smile.
“Fortunately for us, that vision came into being and Dr Alex Otti was sworn in on May 29, 2023 as Governor of Abia State. Following that, our group felt that we need to do something more than just campaigning or sponsoring one thing or the other towards his emergence, that we now need to defend the government, we need to create a forum for enlightenment on the activities of government which would serve as a platform to push the new ideological move and movement of the Governor,” Chile narrated.
The Executive Secretary said the group was happy that in the past seven months he has been piloting the affairs of Abia, Otti has demonstrated that he has the capacity to deliver.
“And from the activities we have seen so far, we are happy that this government and this Governor are centred on delivery of dividends of democracy.
“I want to urge all Nigerians, all people of goodwill from Abia State and beyond, to help us stand with this man and see how we can support him, give him every cooperation and sense of belonging that he needs so that he will deliver fully,” he appealed.
Barr. Chile said that the group was not out to be just singing Otti’s praises but has already created a channel for transmitting to government anything wrongdoing in society that comes to their knowledge through many channels, including radio programmes
Contributing, Treasurer of the Dr. Alex Otti Support Group, Mrs Gift Ogbonna, explained that members of the group have transformed to ambassadors of good governance and would be acting as watchdog of the of the government.
Also, Comrade Wisdom Chinonso, a software engineer and Secretary of Ariaria International Market, said that Governor Otti has character, courage, competence and capacity and has demonstrated that he cannot be pushed around.
”He is not a man you can push around. In the last 24 years, Abia State has depended on what we call god-fatherism, where people dictate to you what to do, when to do it and how to do it. What Dr. A;ex Otti did was to free himself from such bondage, he is standing alone, he is standing out. So whatever he is doing, you can hold him responsible. And since you can hold him responsible, he is trying to be responsive. He will not fail,” Chinonso asserted.
Chairman of the rally planning committee, Chief Christopher Okonkwo (a.k.a Ohamadike), said the Aba rally would held on Thursday at Abia State Polytechnic field while the Umuahia rally would hold this Thursday, at Umuahia Township Stadium. Highpoints of the rallies, Okonkwo said, include city-wide marches and prayers for the governor, government and Abians
Another member of the group, Chief Kingsley Obiagwu, was also present during the briefing.
