‘Hoodlums, not our revenue agents killed trailer driver at Ogidi market,’ says Anambra Govt

Anambra Government said the hoodlums who killed trailer driver at the Ogidi Building Materials Market were not its approved revenue agents.

Chairman of Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue Service Dr. David Nzekwu stated this while reacting to an ugly incident at Building Materials junction Ogidi along Onitsha-Enugu expressway where some hoodlums mobbed and killed a trailer driver for refusing to path with money.

Nzekwu who disowned the killers of the driver, said the State approved revenue collectors were not Killers, as they were well-trained for the job, said the State revenue agents carry out their duties with utmost sense of civility and decorum.

He maintained that those involved in the saga were not government approved revenue agents.

He said no government revenue official would attempt to terminate somebody’s life because of refusal to pay tax, adding that officials of the board of internal revenue were not known for acts capable of infringing on the rights of tax payers.

Nzekwu explained that criminals harass people in the name of collecting revenues, arguing that a normal revenue collector would not chase after an individual as according to him, the agency has its own mechanisms which it deploys very copiously to generate revenue.
