[From BONIFACE OKORO, Umuahia]
Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Barrister Okey Igwe, has assured Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of total support of the entire Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) family in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.
Igwe gave the assurance when a delegation of leaders and stakeholders of PDP in Umunneochi LGA paid Ikpeazu a solidarity visit at his Country Home in Umuobiakwa of Obingwa LGA, saying that the Umunneochi PDP family would stand firmly with the Governor and would stand with him 100 per cent in his choice for a successor in 2023.
The lawmaker assured that the Umunneochi PDP family would throw its weight behind the governor, without any hesitation whatsoever.
Corroborating Igwe’s position, the Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Ifeanyi Madu, told the Governor that the PDP would win all elections in the local government in 2023.
Madu, while giving the Vote of Thanks during the visit, said PDP’s victory in his Council would come on account of Ikpeazu’s achievements in Umunneochi.
The Umunneochi Executive Council Chairman, therefore, thanked the Governor, specifically, for always listening and acting whenever he (Madu) calls for additional security support against herdsmen in the area.
Earlier, some of the leaders from the four zones of Umunneochi, including Chief Ndidi Okereke, Dr. Chris Odinaka Igwe, Commissioner for Information, Dr Eze Chikamnayo, Chief Faban Nwankwo and Chief Felix Duru, who spoke for the four different political zones of the Council, thanked the Governor for the numerous projects he was doing in the Council.
They listed the projects to include the remodeling of the Nneato bridge, electricity projects in Nneato and Isuochi, the Isuochi-Achara Road and the multi-million erosion remediation project in the local government.
They, however, called for the rehabilitation of the Obulo-Nneato road, as well as the Ndeawa – Obinulo- Orie Ngodo Road, while making a case for scaling up efforts in tackling security issues in the Council.
Receiving his guests, Ikpeazu told them that he was aware of the additional security challenges the people of Umunneochi were facing on account of the menace of herdsmen in their areas and assured that the he would provide additional support to the Council Chairman to tackle the challenges, using available local remedies.
He also promised to revisit some projects in the local government with a view to identifying those that could be commenced and completed before he leaves office in May, next year.
On the request by the leaders for a vehicle to be given to the Leader of the Umunneochi Legislative Council, the Governor approved the request instantly, explaining that the delay in delivering his vehicle was because he was unavailable when others got theirs.
Ikpeazu expressed confidence that the people of Umunneochi would continue to receive their due from his administration and indeed, every administration in the State, because of its very strategic location as a major gateway into the state from different states.
The Governor further assured the delegation that he would remain in the forefront of matters which would benefit the people of Umunneochi and tasked the party leaders to work hard to strengthen the party in the area.
Assuring that the people of Umunneochi would be in the forefront of discussions around 2023, just like every part of the State, Ikpeazu made it clear that he was fully conscious of the burden that history and posterity have placed on him with regard to preparations for 2023, adding that he would discharge those obligations creditably and without fear or favor, in the interest of the overall welfare, peace and progress of the entire state.
He acknowledged, with gratitude, the support he and his administration have consistently received from the people of Umunneochi and vowed that he would remain relentless in the pursuit of those issues that impact positively on their welfare.
Before the meeting ended, Hon. Okey Igwe moved a motion for a Vote of Confidence on the Governor, which was supported by Prince Dan Okoli, the pioneer Commissioner for Homeland Security. The motion was unanimously carried.
