Ikpeazu mulls another LG election before exiting office
…Inaugurates six new ABSIEC Commissioners

Abia State government may conduct another local government election before the administration of Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu winds down in May this year.
Ikpeazu gave this indication Friday, January 13, 2023, while inaugurating new Commissioners of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) at the Executive Chambers of Government House, Umuahia.
The Governor has therefore charged the ABSIEC Chairman and Commissioners to come up with proposals for the conduct of the last local Government election within the tenure of his administration and charged the commission to get down to business immediately.
According to him, Prof. Nkpa Agu Nkpa’s tenure as Chairman was still subsisting and that Mr. Onyekachi Dinneya would function as the Secretary of the commission.
The Governor, who appreciated the Prof. Nkpa-led ABSIEC for conducting two successful council polls under his first tenure as ABSIEC Chairman, congratulated them on their appointments.
The six new ABSIEC Commissioners inaugurated by Ikpeazu include Prince Dan Okoli, Onyebinanma Sunday Onyebinanma, and Dan Onwutuebe. Others are Henry Okachie Okere, Enyinnaya Ebere and Mrs Precious Achumba.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated Commissioners, the ABSIEC Chairman, Prof. Nkpa Agu Nkpa, and the Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Onyekachi Dinneya, thanked the Governor for the team selected to strengthen the Commission and assured that they would work harder in order to make the Governor and the State proud.
Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Secretary to Government, Barrister Chris Ezem, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Okey Ahiwe, members of the State Executive Council and other top officials of the state government witnessed the event, according to a statement by Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
