Ikpeazu removes ex-senate president, Wabara from ABSU, reconstitutes Governing Council
[From BONIFACE OKORO, Umuahia]
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Monday evening , dissolved the Governing Council of the Abia State University, Uturu {ABSU), headed by a former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara.
In a terse statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, announcing the immediate dissolution of the ABSU Governing Council, Governor Ikpeazu also announced the constitution of another council for the university.
The statement read: “The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, and visitor to Abia State University, Uturu, has approved the dissolution of the Governing Council of Abia State University with immediate effect.
“Furthermore, the Governor has also approved the immediate reconstitution of the Governing Council as follows:
Chief Mba Okoronkwo Ukairo (Chairman),
Chief Obinna Njoku, (member),
Senator Emma Nwaka (member),
Chief Chinwe Nwanganga (member),
Chief Ndukwe U Ndukwe (member),
Dr. Jonas Ibeaja (member),
Barr. C Nwokeukwu (SAN) (member) and
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education (member)
“This directive takes immediate effect.”
Coincidentally, the sack of the ABSU Governing Council is coming on the heels of media reports Monday that the erstwhile Chairman of the Council, Wabara, had cautioned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may lose Abia if the party fields a governorship candidate Ngwa extraction.
The former Senate President who is the Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), had warned that PDP might get protest votes in Abia in 2023, should the party fail to cede its governorship ticket to his Ukwa clan or Abia North zone.
He argued that if Ukwa clan should not be considered because it belongs to Abia South senatorial zone where power currently resides, “then power should move back to Abia North where it started from in 1999.”
