Imo, Calabar, Sokoto airports get ACI safety, health accreditation
Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri (SMICA) in Imo, the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, and the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport Sokoto have received recognition and accreditation for their commitment to prioritizing health and safety measures in accordance with ICAO Council Aviation Restart Task Force (CART) recommendations.
The accreditation is in line with ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines along with industry best practices.
The programme is designed to help reassure the travelling public that airports facilities remain safe and that precautions are being taken to reduce any risk to their health.
A letter signed by Director General ACI World, Luis Felipe de Oliveira and addressed to the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Captain Rabiu Yadudu, further extended congratulations for SMICA becoming accredited in the ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation Programme.
“After reviewing the evidence presented through our evaluation process, your airport has shown that it is providing safe airport experience for all travelers which is in line with the recommended health measures established in the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and ICAO Council Aviation Restart Task Force along with industry best practices,” the letter read.
The letter to the Chief Executive of the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport Sokoto, Mr. Musa Asizehi from the FAAN Director General, dated 20th July 2021 also read same. The accreditations are valid for 12 months from date of issuance.
