The Deputy Governorship candidate of Accord party for the forthcoming governorship election in Imo State, Lady Anne Dozie, has called on the people of Owerri Zone to support the second term bid of the immediate past governor of the state and the governorship candidate of Accord, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim.
Lady Dozie who hails from Egbu in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State made the call on Sunday during a meeting of the former councilors in the state with Dr. Ikedi Ohakim at the country home of the former governor in Isiala Mbano, saying that Ohakim is the shortest route for Owerri Zone to produce the governor of the state.
According to her, Owerri Zone played bad politics in 2011 when they supported Governor Okorocha from Orlu Zone to become the governor of the state in clear contravention of the charter of equity, noting that by that action the people of the zone lacked the morality to run for the governorship of the state when Okigwe Zone has not completed their tenure.
She said that what Owerri Zone did in 2011 was like one shooting himself in the feet, stressing that there is no rationale for the zone to be governor in 2019. She added that there is need for all well-meaning people of the state to rally round Ohakim to become governor again so at complete the tenure of Okigwe Zone, noting that if Okigwe Zone is not supported to become governor in 2019 the zone will lose its remaining four years in perpetuity.
Lady Dozie who apologized to Ohakim on behalf of all those who played one role or the other in removing him from office also said that Ohakim was removed by high powered conspiracy.
She noted that since the zoning formula and charter of equity began with Orlu Zone in 1999, it was proper for Okigwe Zone to be allowed to complete their tenure, adding that Owerri Zone played prominent roles in scuttling the charter of equity in 2011.
