
Insecurity: Telecom operations in Zamfara shutdown -NCC


The Nigerian Communications Commission said on Friday that it has the shutdown of all telecommunication operations sites in Zamfara as part of the effort to deal with the rising insecurity.
This was disclosed in a statement on Friday evening by NCC Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta.

Said the statement :“The pervading security situation in Zamfara State has necessitated an immediate shut down of all telecommunications services in the State from today September 03, 2021,” adding that the shutdown is to enable relevant security agencies carry out required activities towards addressing the security challenge in the state.
“In line with this requirement, Globalcom is hereby directed to shut down all sites n Zamafara state and any sites in neighbouring states that could provide telecommunications series in Zamfara State,” it said.
NCC also added that the shutdown will operate for 2 weeks from the 3rd of September to the 17th of September.
Zamfara State was once again the hotspot for another school kidnapping incident, as the Nigerian Police Force confirmed the kidnap of about 73 students of the Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, Maradun Local Government Area.
It could be recalled that the Federal Government announced the approval of an Emergency Communications Centre (ECC) for Zamfara to help in the fight against insecurity.
