Investors gain N100.65bn as NGXASI appreciates by 0.18%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Monday by 0.18% as the NGX-ASI increased to 102,042.32 from 101,858.37 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +36.47%.
Market capitalization increased by N100.66 Billion to N55.836 trillion from N55.735 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, While, the market turnover decreased to N5.125 billion from N7.354 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 242,432,630 shares in 8,715 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,125,359,811.28, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, February 9), today’s data shows 25% decline in volume, 30% decline in turnover, and 2% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 125 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 32 gainers and 23 losers. NCR Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4.40 per share, followed by Chams (+10%), Royal Exchange (+10%) and Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+9.5%). On the losing side, Infinity Trust Mortgage Bank came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.9% at NGN 7.19 per share, followed by John Holt (-9.88%), PZ Cussons Nigeria (-9.87%) and May & Baker Nigeria (-9.8%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 24.9 million traded shares, followed by Veritas Kapital Assurance (24.2m), Guaranty Trust Holding (21.2m) and FBN Holdings (17.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 183.95 (0.18%) points to close at 102,042.32, representing a 1-week loss of 1.56%, a 4-week gain of 20.56%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 36.47%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.16%; -1.52% 1WK; +37.62% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+2.3%; -1.84% 1WK; +30.86% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.6%; +0.49% 1WK; +32.62% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.57%; -1.87% 1WK; +27.29% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.15%; -0.25% 1WK; +19.69% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (-0.07%; -4.23% 1WK; +100.09% YTD).
