Investors gain N140.77bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.13%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive by 0.13percent on Thursday while investors gained about N140.77billion following cherry-picking actions seen across board.
Investors bought mostly banking, consumer goods, and industrial stocks amid mild offering of insurance stocks.
The Nigerian Bourse positive close by 0.13percent on Thursday pushed higher this year’s return to +29.89 percent. The market has risen this week by 0.28 percent.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 357,445,893 shares in 6,959 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,747,655,910.28, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, October 4), today’s data shows 46% decline in volume, 18% decline in turnover, but 5% improvement in deals.
The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 116 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 24 gainers and 19 losers. Wema Bank led the gainers with 9.93% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4.65 per share, followed by Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (+9.74%), Regency Alliance Insurance (+8.82%) and Royal Exchange (+8.7%). On the losing side, Champion Breweries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.87% at NGN 3.38 per share, followed by Chellarams (-9.84%), Associated Bus Company (-9.72%) and UPDC (-8.57%).
Oando recorded the highest volume of 75.1 million traded shares, followed by Universal Insurance Company (47.2m), Fidelity Bank (35.1m) and Sterling Bank (24.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 87.91 (0.13%) points to close at 66,570.19, representing a 1-week loss of 0.12%, a 4-week loss of 2.58%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 29.89%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.39%; +1.03% 1WK; +44.33% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.06%; -0.2% 1WK; +32.85% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.44%; +1.1% 1WK; +60.72% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.39%; +1.74% 1WK; +92.6% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.34%; +0.16% 1WK; +59.92% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.2%; +0.58% 1WK; +29.09% YTD).
