Investors gain N18bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.05%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Thursday by 0.05% as the NGX-ASI increased to 67,133.19 from 67,100.49 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.99%.
Market capitalization increased by N18 billion to N36.883 trillion from N36.865 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N4.5 billion from N4.4 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 309,315,910 shares in 5,588 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,545,405,436.83, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, October 11), today’s data shows 25% decline in volume but 2% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 22 gainers and nine losers. Thomas Wyatt Nigeria led the gainers with 9.79% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.58 per share, followed by Courteville Business Solutions (+8.77%), Deap Capital Management & Trust (+8%) and Africa Prudential (+7.69%).
On the losing side, Cornerstone Insurance Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 6.06% at NGN 1.55 per share, followed by AXA Mansard Insurance (-3.61%), Regency Alliance Insurance (-2.86%) and United Capital (-2.07%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 61.8 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (54.5m), United Bank for Africa (28.8m) and Zenith Bank (20.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 32.70 (0.05%) points to close at 67,133.19, representing a 1-week gain of 0.85%, a 4-week gain of 0.56%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 30.99%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.06%; -2.18% 1WK; +41.19% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.02%; +0.94% 1WK; +34.09% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.94%; -0.18% 1WK; +60.43% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.18%; -3.18% 1WK; +36.62% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.07%; +0.75% 1WK; +94.05% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+0.06%; +1.47% 1WK; +62.26% YTD).
