Investors gain N193.69bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.35%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Tuesday by 0.35% as the NGX-ASI increased to 99,190.46 from 98,847.89 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +32.65%.
Market capitalization increased by N193.69 billion to N56.083 billion from N55.890 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover increased to N31.789 billion from N19.924 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 398,134,011 shares in 10,976 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 31,788,685,226.25, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, March 4), today’s data shows 7% decline in volume, 60% improvement in turnover, and 2% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 126 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 10 gainers and 37 losers. Transcorp Power led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 290.40 per share, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (+10%), FBN Holdings (+9.88%) and The Initiates (+9.77%).
On the losing side, National Salt Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 48.15 per share, followed by International Breweries (-10%), May & Baker Nigeria (-9.93%) and Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (-9.85%). Transcorp Power recorded the highest volume of 87.5 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (68m), United Bank for Africa (23.4m) and Access Holdings (18.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 342.57 (0.35%) points to close at 99,190.46, representing a 1-week loss of 1.38%, a 4-week loss of 2.86%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 32.65%.
