
Investors gain N263.49bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.71%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Monday by 0.71% as the NGX-ASI increased to 67,877.17 from 67,395.74 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +32.44%.
Market capitalization increased by N263.49 billion to N37.149 trillion from N36.886 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N8.92 billion from N5.23 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 515,280,396 shares in 8,357 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,925,828,719.09, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, September 15), today’s data shows 26% improvement in volume, 71% improvement in turnover, and 20% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 37.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 114 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 29 gainers and 26 losers. Northern Nigeria Flour Mills led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 14.85 per share, followed by Oando (+10%), Chams (+10%) and Stanbic IBTC Holdings (+9.58%).
On the losing side, Omatek Ventures came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.36 per share, followed by Skyway Aviation Handling Co. (-9.95%), Beta Glass Company (-9.93%) and Red Star Express (-8.5%).
United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 109 million traded shares, followed by Universal Insurance Company (65.4m), Transcorp Nigeria (42.3m) and Access Holdings (40.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 481.43 (0.71%) points to close at 67,877.17, representing a 1-week gain of 0.86%, a 4-week gain of 4.1%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 32.44%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.93%; +1.25% 1WK; +35.95% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.62%; +0.6% 1WK; +48.19% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.43%; +4.52% 1WK; +67.87% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.4%; +2.43% 1WK; +62.5% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+1.05%; +1.37% 1WK; +27.26% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (+0.3%; +0.22% 1WK; +50.13% YTD).
