Investors gain N338.61bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.93%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Wednesday by 0.93% as the NGX-ASI increased to 67,378.88 from 66,760.20 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.47%.
Market capitalization increased today by N358.05 billion to N36.896 trillion from N36.538 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N8.69 billion from N11.00 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 569,626,853 shares in 8,404 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,697,001,507.31, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, September 12), today’s data shows 12% decline in volume, 21% decline in turnover, and 20% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 116 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 34 gainers and 24 losers. Dangote Sugar Refinery led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 57.20 per share, followed by National Salt Company (+10%), Nigerian Aviation Handling Co. (+10%) and United Capital (+10%).
On the losing side, Courteville Business Solutions came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.54 per share, followed by Associated Bus Company (-9.8%), Tantalizers (-9.3%) and Learn Africa (-8.51%).
Oando recorded the highest volume of 143 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (63.6m), Fidelity Bank (39.6m) and Transcorp Nigeria (32.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 618.68 (0.93%) points to close at 67,378.88, representing a 1-week loss of 1.33%, a 4-week gain of 4.26%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 31.47%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+1.46%; -2.92% 1WK; +47.76% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+1.21%; -1.17% 1WK; +34.91% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+4.58%; -4.13% 1WK; +63.61% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+2.27%; -2.6% 1WK; +48.85% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.28%; -1.58% 1WK; +59.27% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.27%; -2.39% 1WK; +83.63% YTD).
